Solar O&M Engineer

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer to join our dynamic team. The Solar O&M Engineer uses their extensive field experience to support our service and O&M technicians via remote and on-site support and training. The ideal candidate possesses demonstrated technical expertise in commercial and residential PV and BESS technologies and a strong competency in problem-solving and troubleshooting electrical systems. The Solar O&M Engineer reviews scopes, completion notes, and photos to ensure the work is performed to the highest standard.
Responsibilities
Office Responsibilities (Field Support)
- Provide remote troubleshooting assistance to technicians over the phone, text, facetime, and other digital means guiding them through complex issues.
- Proactively provide guidance on safe work practices in alignment with SESâs safety handbook and all local and national safety regulations.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of solar and battery systems to diagnose problems effectively.
- Review, update, and clarify scopes for complex services.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) based on remote assessments and technician reports from service visits.
- Collaboratively develop best practices for service delivery and issue resolution.
- Remotely troubleshoot monitoring using industry-standard monitoring and asset management tools.
- Set and communicate proper and realistic expectations internally and externally.
- Screen work orders to ensure their system falls within service parameters.
- Maintain current knowledge and expertise for all relevant AHJ and building code regulations as they pertain to solar systems.
Field Responsibilities
- Provide on-site field assistance and training when necessary.
- Regularly visit job sites to ensure crews perform work to industry and SES standards.
- Visit complex sites to develop scope statements and work plans.
- Occasionally oversee and observe field work, assisting field team in the fulfillment of job scopes.
Required Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities
- OSHA 30 or better required within 90 days of start date.
- High school diploma or GED required; advanced degree preferred.
- 5 years minimum solar PV experience required.
- Electrical License Preferred; electrical qualified person training required.
- Demonstrated field experience in installation or maintenance of PV and BESS technologies.
- Prior leadership experience.
- Ability to explain complex concepts to inexperienced customers.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal communication skills for effective technician support.
- Bachelorâs degree, 4 years solar experience, or 8 years general construction experience.
- NABCEP PVA minimum required.
- NABCEP PVIP, PVMCS, PVDS, or PVI increases compensation.
- Strong familiarity with recent NEC and I-codes pertinent to solar.
Physical Demands
- Occasional travel, primarily local.
- Ability to climb on rooftops or in tight spaces as required.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

- Pay: $70,000 - $85,000 per year
